HOMEOPATHY IN DENTISTRY: ABCDH BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION OF DENTAL HOMEOPATHS
Drawing a parallel between the historical evolution of homeopathy, what can be observed is that in the same year (1840) that the 1st School of Dentistry of the world, "Baltimore College of Dental Surgery", was founded in USA, the Homeopathy was introduced in Brazil by Benoit Mure and only 44 years later, dentistry teaching in medical schools of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia was officially established, at October 25th, 1884, being the first Dental School officially established in 1933.
In his professional life, the dentist often faces with pathological manifestations of the stomatognathic system, for which, only the conventional treatment does not provide the expected results. The dental procedures are often unable to promote or restore health and/or to avoid diseases by itself, despite all the technology and materials used, which brings dissatisfaction to the professional. This dissatisfaction has been largely responsible for bringing so many dental professionals to seek unconventional therapies like homeopathy, because, through this it is possible to, scientifically and systematically, treat the individual, valuing the whole. One begins to consider the mouth and teeth as part of that whole, as well as oral manifestations are no longer a disease in itself but reflections of an imbalance that can express themselves, sometimes through changes in the oral cavity.
Currently, the homeopaths dentists have an association, ABCDH (BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOPATHY DENTRISTY), founded on March 26th, 1993, which has since been promoting scientific activities such as courses, lectures and conferences, informative courses and Congress. The 1st Brazilian Congress of Homeopathy in Dentistry, held in Sao Paulo in May 26th to 29th,1994. This first congress met dentists and academics from various Brazilian states, where they got to know and discuss the topic and its application in dentistry.
Since this day, much has happened. In 2006 when ordinance 971 was signed by the Ministry of Health, through which it was established the National Politic on Integrative and Complementary Practices, which included homeopathy as an available therapy to all users of public health services in the country, the ABCDH participated actively in this process, since the first meeting. The Federal Council of Dentistry promoted, in 2008, a Forum for Integrative and Complementary Practices and, at this time, Homeopathy was accepted as a legal practice for the dentist and since then, the professionals who practice homeopathy in Brazil must be able to use or teach this therapy. Even though supporting and participating actively in all these cases, the ABCDH has not abandoned its vocation to promote homeopathy and dentistry, and, in addition to courses and lectures, it has kept organizing conferences and, this year, it is organizing the 12th Brazilian Congress of Homeopathy in Dentistry, which is going to be held in the city of Belo Horizonte in November 13th to 17th
